Going Green With Greenhouses!
There are some great ways to use greenhouses to grow more food. Flowering and foliage plants are also nice in a greenhouse. Sometimes you need some food for the soul too!
I found a great book on greenhouses called, “Greenhouse Structures: How To Get The Hobby Greenhouse of Your Dreams”. I enjoyed reading it and dreaming about the greenhouse I would like to build.
If you have any interest at all in having your own greenhouse, this is a good information source. It starts out with the basics of greenhouses: why you should have one and what the benefits are to having one.
There are chapters on different type greenhouses, including the ideal “green” greenhouse… a solar greenhouse.
You might think that all greenhouses are solar, and to some extent they are. But to keep a greenhouse warm in cold weather, there needs to be some kind of heating system in place. Other types of greenhouse rely on an electric heater, or gas or propane. A solar greenhouse is constructed so that it takes advantage of the sun’s warmth when it is available, and stores it up for the time of day when it is colder.

Of course there are many different kinds of greenhouses. They come in all sizes, prices and even shapes. There are lean-to greenhouses, Victorian style greenhouse, hoop houses, and even some that are octagon shaped. You can find just about any type of greenhouse you might possibly want!
And if you can’t find exactly the style, you can always build your own!
There are many kits on the market today to choose from. And you can buy plans that will allow you to build just what you want. If they aren’t exactly to your liking, you can always alter them!
Whatever kind of greenhouse you would like to have, “Greenhouse Structures: How To Get The Hobby Greenhouse of Your Dreams” is a great start.
